Moldova 0-5 England
Roy Hodgson named last night’s match his best in the England job, and it is certainly a contender. England stunned Moldova with an emphatic 5-0 away victory to get qualification off to a great start in Chişinău.
Roy Hodgson said after the game, that he thought Moldova weren’t a team that particularly lose 5-0 very often, if ever. But England managed to beat this team by exactly that score line and the score was not flattering, as England took their chances brilliantly. Tom Cleverley earned a penalty for England as early as two minutes, and Frank Lampard stepped up and scored. England scored their second later in the half with Lampard latching onto Glen Johnson’s chipped pass and headed home for 2-0. Jermain Defoe also scored to put England up by three at halftime.
James Milner scored from a well worked three man counterattack to make it four, and finally Leighton Baines scored an eighty-third minute free-kick with a large deflection.
