Defensive Error Gifts Poland a Point

Poland 1-1 England

England were in touching distance of a victory over Poland in Warsaw last night, before Kamil Glik put Roy in a ‘no win situation’.

As England arrived in Warsaw expecting to beat Poland, no-one knew that it would be Kamil Glik, the centre-back to beat Joe Hart, if anyone was going to. Not Robert Lewandowski, or Jakub Blaszczykowski or even Ludovic Obraniak could find a way into Joe Hart’s net, and yet as Joe Hart came to punch away a seventieth minute corner, he was beaten in the air by Glik of Torino’s towering header. This was just twenty minutes before the end of the game, and England were expecting that Rooney’s deflected header [also from a corner] would have won them the game. Wayne’s goal was just thirty minutes into the match. England, who were the better side, did not take their chances well and so they were hardly unlucky not to come away with three points.
