England 4-0 Moldova
England made it nine on aggregate against Moldova last night, with a wonderful 4-0 home victory over the ‘Selectionata’.
Captain Steven Gerrard scored a scorcher from some way out, and Rickie Lambert added to his debut goal versus Scotland to make it two. Both goals were beautiful. The second though, was a persistent piece was attacking play. The ball failed to be cleared several times by Moldova, and as Theo Walcott lashed the ball at Stanislav Namaşco, the ball was worryingly spilt by the keeper, and Lambert planted the into the exposed net with ease.
Later, Danny Welbeck was caught just offside by the linesman. At the moment the whistle blew, Danny Welbeck took his shot. He was then awarded a yellow card by the referee. This would have been ok, but this ruled him out of the next match. It was supposedly the hardest game; away to the Ukraine just four days later. Forwards Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll have already been ruled out of the game, and Daniel Sturridge will probably be unable to make the match as well. Welbeck put this behind a few minutes later, and as Rickie Lambert played a beautiful ball to the Manchester United man, Welbeck’s touch took the ball away from the unimpressive Namaşco. Welbeck then smashed it into the net to add a third immediately before the break. Five minutes into the final forty-five, and Lambert’s pass was found by Welbeck, who chipped the ball into the net for the fourth.
