Ukraine 0-0 England

A professional and semi pleasing performance for Roy Hodgson’s men has left England at the top of the table by just a point, having only beaten San Marino and Moldova with two games left.

One minute into last night’s 0-0 draw with Ukraine, the home side had a penalty shout, but the referee Pedro Proença gave a compromised decision and awarded a free-kick. Theo Walcott and Steven Gerrard had the only other good chances of the half. Walcott getting denied by the injured Pyatov’s foot and Gerrard just firing over.

The Ukraine had a few more chances in the second half, but Gary Cahill commanded the defence, and none of the chances developed into anything. Both Yevhen Konoplyanka and Frank Lampard failed to score free-kicks for their teams. Defender Artem Fedetskiy, who has fount a rare knack of goal scoring recently, had an easy header chance. He aimed downs though and Joe Hart gathered easily. Frank Lampard, celebrating his well earned 100th cap, had a chance also, but missed his header by inches.
